What Does Confident Feel Like?

15 minutes

Before you can build confidence, it helps to know what it actually feels like in your body and your mind. That is what this lesson is about.

Quick Write

Take two minutes and finish this sentence as many times as you can:

“I feel confident when…”

Don’t edit yourself. Just write whatever comes.

What Did You Notice?

Look at your list. Do your confident moments happen alone or with other people? Are they about doing something physical, saying something, or knowing something?

Confidence shows up differently for different people. There is no wrong answer.

The Confidence Body Scan

Close your eyes (or look at the floor). Think of a moment when you felt really sure of yourself — any moment, big or small.

Notice what happens in your body:

  • Where do you feel it? (chest, stomach, shoulders, legs?)
  • Does your breathing change?
  • What does your face do?

Open your eyes and write two or three sentences describing what confident feels like for you physically.

One Strategy to Try

When you are about to do something that makes you nervous, pause and take one slow breath while thinking about a moment when you felt sure of yourself. This is called an anchor — a memory that helps you find your footing.

Before Next Lesson

Notice one moment this week when you feel confident. It could be small — getting an answer right, helping someone, finishing a task. Write it down.
