Child Safety
Last updated: 2026-06-24
Our commitment
Rooted in Equity is committed to providing a safe, welcoming learning environment for children. Our lessons are designed to be viewed openly alongside a parent, caregiver, or educator, and we hold a zero-tolerance standard for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) anywhere in connection with our Services.
Privacy by design for children
Children can read lessons and watch videos without creating an account. We do not require children to submit personal information to learn, and lesson progress is stored only on the child's own device, not on our servers. Our handling of children's information is described in our Privacy Policy, including our compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
Parent and guardian involvement
Any account created on behalf of a minor must be set up and managed by a parent, legal guardian, or authorized educator, who consents to our Privacy Policy. We encourage adults to participate in children's learning and to supervise use of online content.
Safe content
We design and review our educational materials to be age-appropriate for K–8 learners. Some lessons include videos hosted on a third-party video platform; that platform applies its own content and safety policies, and we choose and review the videos we embed.
Zero tolerance for child exploitation
We prohibit any content or conduct that sexualizes, endangers, or exploits children. We do not tolerate child sexual abuse material (CSAM) or any attempt to use our Services to harm a child. We will act on credible reports, remove offending content, terminate access where appropriate, and report apparent child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or law enforcement as required by law.
Safeguarding practices
Staff and volunteers who work directly with children are expected to follow our safeguarding standards, including appropriate conduct, supervision, and boundaries.
Reporting a concern
If you have a concern about child safety on our platform, please contact us immediately at [email protected] or through our contact form. We review every report promptly. If a child is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services (911) first. You can also report concerns directly to the NCMEC CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org or 1-800-843-5678.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Child Safety policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
